This past month was so full! Full of new friends and old friends coming together to help plant 85lb of garlic, take down tents, and get 100 bare root peonies into the ground. Not pictured were my parents flying in from Cali to shell beans, hug chickens, and pull up potatoes 🤍

Last Fall Share pick-up of the season! 22 weeks of fresh vegetables and herbs through the ups and downs of whatever the weather threw at us. Thank you so much to everyone joined me in a culinary journey this year.

Now it’s time to put these beds and this farmer to rest for the winter.

I expected our first frost of the season but did not expect a low of 25F. Woke up to ice crystals everywhere. Too nervous to even see how the crops fared. We don’t usually see temperatures this low for another few weeks. And of course Monday will have a high of 73F…

We got a decent haul of chestnuts from an orchard I manage down the road last year. I let them dry above our wood stove so they would be easier to crack out. Simmer the dried nuts low and slow in some water like you would dried beans. It’s amazing how naturally sweet they taste!
